ACTIVITY 3

NARRATING PERSONAL EXPERIENCES

PAST SIMPLE V. PAST CONTINUOUS

AGO…FIRST…THEN…NEXT…FINALLY

AFTER v. AFTERWARDS/BEFORE v. BEFOREHAND

NOTE:

Take care with ‘after’/’before’. ‘After’ is a preposition and ‘before’ is usually used as a preposition. They need a noun/pronoun after them.

Eg. I have a shower after/before breakfast. After that, I go to work.

If we want to express then’, we can use ‘afterwards’.

Eg. First, I have breakfast and afterwards (then) I go to work.

The following sentence is INCORRECT:

First, I have breakfast and after I go to work.

Talk to your partner about something you did recently. Try to order the events logically.

ACTIVITY 4

STORY-TELLING –  The dark, cold night.

Read the first part and try to predict how the story continues by answering the question. Continue with the successive parts of the story.

Did you predict the story correctly? Did any of the events surprise you?
