Hello Helen, as he wrote? “puede tú amigo hacer pilates?
Can your friend does pilates? or
    Does your friend do pilates?
    thanks

    • Hello Manu
I think what you’re trying to say is, “Can your friend do pilates?” (“¿Puede tu amigo hacer pilates?”)
“Does your friend do pilates?” means “¿Hace pilates tu amigo?”
      Helen

Hello Hellen!, Can you recommend extra book of basic exercises ? thank you!

  6. ELI says:

    Hi Helen,

Cuando usamos el -ing en los deportes? A parte de las reglas basicas del presente continuo y el presente simple… ???
Por ejemplo, estoy mirando en el libro para repasar y pone:
You can go windsurfing in a swimming pool.
    Podría ser también:
You can do windsurf in a swimming pool??

Lo que no entiendo es cuando tengo que poner el -ing a los deportes como box (boxing), walk (walking), swim (swimming), windsurf (windsurfing) etc…

    • You have to learn which sports are used in the -ing form! Most of them are activites which are used with the verb “go”. (go swimming, go jogging, etc)
Sports with balls are used with “play” (play tennis, play volleyball, etc)
Other activities (normally in a gym) are used with “do” (do yoga, do aerobics, do karate, etc)

      • ELI says:

Yes!!! so I know!!.. My question is: for exemple when I use “walk” and when “go walking”? or “swim” “go swimming”… etc..

      • Oh… that’s a bit more difficult! But, in general you use “GO” WHEN THE ACTIVITY IS A SPORT.
I go walking at the weekend v. I walk to work. With activities like swimming, it doesn’t really matter; either is correct (I swim twice a week or I go swimming twice a week).
        Hope this helps.

      • ELI says:

Ok… more or less I think I understand… thank you!

  7. ELI says:

    Hi Helen,

Otra pregunta… (es que estoy repasando para el examen del lunes y me asaltan las dudas)
Me he dado cuenta en los ejercicios que enlazas en la pagina, que “todo el mundo” (everybody) lo trantan como singlular:
Ejemplo: I’m sorry I can’t hear what you (say) are saying because everybody (talk) is talking so loudly.
Esto es así siempre? porque a mi entender, “todo el mundo” – “everybody” es “ellos” y debería ser “are talking” no “is talking”… no???

    Gracias.

    • “Everybody” is always singular, although the concept is plural. It’s like Spanish: “Todo el mundo sabe…” not “todo el mundo saben…” The verb is in singular!
It’s a bit like the word “gente” in Spanish – it’s singular, although it refers to many people!!!
